Counselor Development Program (CDP) We have designed our Counselor Development Programs for the Counselor/student to gain insight and practical helps in this important sphere of ministry. Most Christians do not have the opportunity to gain college-level classes in order to hone their desire to counsel. Our CDP is part of the answer for this counselor training need. Currently, we offer our CDP through Self-Paced Studies, Distance Education.

Upon completion of your study you may be certified through Grace Harbor Counseling Ministries, the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors, and/or the International Association of Biblical Counselors. Certification depends upon which course of study you take.

In addition to the personalized formal counselor training for the individual counselor/student above; Grace Harbor Counseling Ministries also offers four Counselor Training Events for the local church body or other Christian organizations that desire competent training.

 

 

Training Programs for Local Churches and Other Christian Organizations!

 

Introduction to Biblical Counseling - This conference is designed for Pastors, Elders, Deacons, Care Group Leaders, and other key leaders of the local church who would like to know how they can develop their people in the area of Christian counseling. This is the recommended first step for the leadership team in their desire to introduce counseling to their members. This 3-hour Saturday meeting covers the ministry services of GHCM, plus a special workshop on how to identify the ruling motives of the heart. This “special workshop” gives the ministry leaders a sneak preview of the overall training of Grace Harbor Counseling Ministries. From this conference, the leadership will have a clear vision as to how to proceed in equipping their local body in discipleship/counseling.

 

 

Basic Training - After the Introduction to Biblical Counseling meeting, the church leadership plans to hold our Basic Training counselor conference at their church. (It is important to note that all of our training is not just for those interested in learning how to counsel one another. Sometimes Christians, who are struggling in their sanctification, believe this training is not for them, but for the "mature" Christian. This is not altogether true. Our training is for the counselor as well as the counselee. Truly all Christians, simultaneously, are the counselor and the counselee. Therefore, this training will benefit all believers, regardless of where they are in their walk with Christ.) This Basic Training conference introduces Christian counseling to the local church general. It covers 10 basic principles of Christian counseling. It is the most generalized and introductory training we offer. You definitely want your entire congregation to be part of this conference. Typically, from these meetings you will likely have an advanced group who desire to gain more in-depth training in Christian counseling. GHCM would like to identify this core group and take them through the next three levels of our counselor training conferences, beginning with CCEF's Changing Hearts/Changing Lives training.

 

Changing Hearts/Changing Lives - This conference material was developed by the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation in Philadelphia, PA. The goal of this course is to equip the student for personal and ministry growth. The curriculum is intensely Christ-centered; because CCEF believes that a counselor needs more than a system of redemption, the counselor, as well as the counselee, needs a redeemer. This is a “must” conference for the serious disciple of Christ.

 

Instruments of Change – This conference builds upon the Changing Hearts/Changing Lives curriculum and was developed by the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation in Philadelphia, PA. Instruments of Change is one piece of a three-piece training curriculum currently being produced by CCEF. They will be launching a second curriculum in 2005 called "Helping People Change".
